Experienced Senior Designer

Position Overview:

Our Experienced Truss Designers are responsible for providing accurately designing trusses for custom single-family, multi-family, farm, and commercial projects utilizing MiTek Sapphire Software. As a Truss Designer, you will report to the Design Manager and be accountable for roof truss plans, preparing truss layouts, truss design drawings, and truss quotes. The Truss Designer will also assist in reviewing design work and feasibility analysis of construction plans relative to truss-related matters. This role includes a strong front-line customer service component, and we are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about serving the construction industry, bringing both knowledge and experience to a rewarding design role, along with providing excellent customer service to our clients.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze plans submitted for estimate and order to ensure there is adequate information to complete quality designs
• Consult with clients/contractors/framers/KTL sales staff to confirm additional requests or changes to design
• Be able to provide clients/contractors with options in truss design for quality assurance and aesthetics.
• Build accurate 3D models from blueprints using MiTek Structure software.
• Design trusses and floors for production - considering efficient use of material - and on time.
• Design single joists and beams using MiTek Structure software.
• Utilize MiTek MGT and Management software to manage accurate material takeoff lists and customer info.
• Manage and prioritize quotes and orders using MGT software/calendar to comply with all deadlines.
• Produce legible IFC site layouts and organize sealed truss/EWP drawings with sealing engineer.
• Coordinate with contractors/architects/project engineers throughout the design and build process.
• Communicate effectively with Sales staff and clients regarding technical aspects of any given project.
• Work independently in a fast-paced environment under strict deadlines.
• Aid in the review of Truss and EWP production cutting produced by junior designers.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of drafting and design experience with rough framing within the construction and/or manufacturing industry
• 10+ years’ experience with MiTek Structure, and/or equivalent truss design software; Javelin, iStruct, etc.
• Expertise in the application and design of building components and connections of roof and roof truss systems, tall walls and other engineered wood products.
• Expert blueprint reading skills (architecture, structural and mechanical).
• Knowledge of standard construction practices, national /BCBC building codes, structural engineering, and carpentry.
• Ability to quickly learn and adopt local building practices/styles/procedures.
• Experience in the production of shop ready cutting, layouts and engineering.
• Experience with product costing; and MiTek – Management Software or equivalent.
• Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.
• Understanding of manufacturing and logistics operations.
• Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Architecture, Engineering or Drafting.

Job Type: Full or Part Time

Salary: $30-$40/hr. based on a combination of skills and experience

Schedule: 8-hour shift - Monday – Friday, no weekends.
