Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior Marks 60th Anniversary
Kamloops, BC – The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) is thrilled to announce its 60th anniversary, celebrating over half a century of advocacy, leadership, and innovation in the residential construction industry.
This milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on CHBA CI’s rich history, honour the contributions of its members, and look ahead to a future of excellence and innovation in home building. Over the years, CHBA CI has been a leading advocate for the industry, offering support through government relations, education, and building innovation.
The highlight of this momentous year will be a 60th-anniversary celebration on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the TRU Grand Hall in Kamloops.
“Our 60th anniversary is a time to celebrate how far we’ve come and to set our sights on the opportunities ahead,” said Chris Crowell, President of CHBA CI. “From our humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of residential construction in the Central Interior, this milestone is a testament to the strength of our members and the impact of our collective efforts.”
A Brief History of CHBA Central Interior:
1965: Spearheaded by Frank Hewlett and Gene Allgaier, the Kamloops and District House Builders’ Association was formed and joined the National House Builders Association on September 14, 1965. The founding group of 12 members each contributed $100 to create the organization.
1974: The association was renamed the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada, Kamloops Branch (HUDAC).
1981: Membership grew to 88 members, reflecting the association’s increasing influence in the region.
1990: Partnered with University College of the Cariboo (now Thompson Rivers University) Trades and Technology to build the first Training House, providing hands-on experience for students.
1995: Renamed as Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Kamloops.
1996: Partnered with YMCA/YWCA, launching the Dream Home Lottery fundraiser using the Training House.
2008: Renamed the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior to reflect a growing membership base.
2019: CHBA Rocky Mountain amalgamated with CHBA Central Interior, bringing additional members from the East Kootenay region.
A Legacy of Achievement
Today, CHBA CI has grown from a small group of dedicated builders into an influential organization representing almost 300 businesses, including home builders, renovators, land developers, trade contractors, suppliers, financial institutions, and service professionals.
