Kamloops, BC – August 27, 2024 – The Canadian Home Builders' Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) is thrilled to announce the commencement of the 2025 Training House Project at 3562 Sage Drive in Westsyde, Kamloops. This year marks a significant milestone as we celebrate 35 years of a successful partnership with Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Trade and Technology.
The esteemed Training House program provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to build the foundation and framing of the house. This practical, real-world training is crucial for developing the skills necessary in the carpentry field. By participating in this initiative, students not only enhance their learning experience but also help address the current labor shortage by becoming highly skilled carpenters ready to enter the workforce.
The project receives substantial support from the members of Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior, who completes the house through generous sponsorships and donations. Their contributions transform the training house into a dream home, highlighting the power of community collaboration and support.
"Today, we kick off our project with a unique twist—embracing a construction-themed ceremony in place of the traditional ribbon-cutting. This event not only marks the start of the project but also celebrates our community’s dedication and collaboration," said Chris Crowell, in coming president of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior, in his opening remarks.
Additionally, he recognized the enduring partnerships the Canadian Home Builders’ Association has fostered with Thompson Rivers University and YMCA BC. The collaboration with Thompson Rivers University spans 35 years, reflecting a commitment to practical education. The 29-year partnership with the YMCA BC demonstrates the enduring connections that have been forged over time.
The highlight of the event was the symbolic cutting of a 2 x 4 plank by student Justin Hampton, marking the official commencement of the 2025 Training House Project.
As the 2025 project unfolds, sponsors will have their names prominently displayed on a dedicated sponsor sign. The CHBA CI is committed to sharing the project's progress through social media platforms, allowing the public to follow each step of the construction journey.
The 2025 Training House Project launch event successfully celebrates the spirit of collaboration, education, and community engagement that defines this annual initiative. The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior looks forward to another year of growth, learning, and positive impact on the local community.
