A Celebration of Community Collaboration and Practical Education Kamloops, August 30, 2023 — The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior (CHBA Central Interior) proudly announces the commencement of the 2024 Training House Project. The official kick-off event took place at 14-200 Grand Blvd in Orchards Walk, where attendees gathered to celebrate the project's launch in a unique construction-themed ceremony. "Today marks the official launch of our project, and we're doing so with a twist—a construction version of the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. We are here not only to witness but to celebrate the commencement of this unique community initiative," says Tom Calne in his opening remarks. The 2024 Training House Project represents a collaborative effort between the CHBA Central Interior and Thompson Rivers University School of Trades. The initiative underscores a shared commitment to hands-on learning, skill development, and practical education within the construction industry. The project aims to provide students with real-world experience and contribute to the growth of skilled trades professionals. Tom expressed his gratitude to Jere Lorenz of Orchards Walk for hosting the kick-off event and to the sponsoring companies for their integral role in ensuring the success of the annual project. He applauded the dedication and collaboration of Project Manager Mike Lawrence and the sponsoring companies, highlighting their generosity and support. Additionally, he recognized the enduring partnerships the Canadian Home Builders’ Association has fostered with Thompson Rivers University and YMCA BC. The collaboration with Thompson Rivers University spans 34 years, reflecting a commitment to practical education. The 28-year partnership with the YMCA BC demonstrates the enduring connections that have been forged over time. The highlight of the event was the symbolic cutting of a 2 x 4 plank by student Rylee Arther, marking the official commencement of the 2024 Training House Project. As the project unfolds, sponsors will have their names prominently displayed on a dedicated sponsor sign. The CHBA Central Interior is committed to sharing the project's progress through social media platforms, allowing the public to follow each step of the construction journey. The 2024 Training House Project launch event successfully celebrated the spirit of collaboration, education, and community engagement that defines this annual initiative. The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior looks forward to another year of growth, learning, and positive impact on the local community.
